The Fool tarot card description
A young traveller stands at the edge of a cliff, face lifted to the sky, about to step off without looking down. A small bundle hangs from a staff over one shoulder, a white rose is held lightly in the other hand, and a small white dog leaps at their heels. Behind them rise snowy mountains, and a bright sun fills the sky.
The bundle holds all they need; the rose stands for innocence and pure intent; the dog for loyalty, and for the instinct that warns and protects. The mountains are the challenges still ahead. Numbered zero, the Fool has no fixed place in the sequence: the other 21 cards are often read as the stages of the Fool’s journey.
The Fool upright
The Fool is the card of new beginnings entered with curiosity and trust. It appears when a fresh chapter is opening: a new job, a move, a relationship, a journey, or simply a new way of seeing yourself.
It invites you to travel light and stay open. You do not need every answer before you begin; experience will teach you along the way. What it asks for is courage, and a willingness to be a beginner again.
Love and relationships
A new relationship, or a fresh and playful chapter in an existing one. If you are single, be open to meeting someone unexpected; if you are in a relationship, try something new together.
Finances
A new venture or opportunity may appear. Enjoy the openness, but look before you leap: a little planning protects the adventure.
Career
A new role, a change of career or an unusual idea worth exploring. It is a good time to learn, to start, and to take a sensible risk.
Health and wellbeing
A fresh start for your wellbeing: a new routine, a new activity, a lighter outlook. Take care with small accidents from haste.

The Fool reversed
Reversed, the Fool can point to a leap taken without looking: carelessness, impulsive decisions, or risks that were not thought through.
It can also mean the opposite: fear keeping you at the edge long after it is time to move. Ask yourself which of the two it is for you.
Love and relationships
Impulsive choices, or commitment avoided. Slow down, or, if you have been hesitating for a long time, gently take the step.
Finances
Watch for impulsive spending and schemes that promise too much.
Career
A plan started without preparation, or an opportunity missed through hesitation.
Health and wellbeing
Carelessness with your body or routine; slow down and take sensible precautions.
Health readings describe wellbeing within the tradition. They are not medical advice; for any health concern, see a doctor.
The Fool: one-card pull, yes or no
Drawn as a single card for a yes-or-no question, The Fool is usually read like this:
Upright
Yes
a clear yes, especially for new beginnings.
Reversed
Not yet
think it through before you act.
The Fool for timing
In timing questions the Fool is usually read as “soon”: beginnings that arrive quickly and unplanned, or whenever you feel ready to start.
These correspondences come from the Western tarot tradition, which uses the tropical zodiac. They are not part of Vedic astrology, whose signs are counted differently.
